Linus battled back after a difficult start to the day to join the frontrunning scrap in the first qualifying session of the weekend at Mid-Ohio, snatching P4 on the grid for Saturday’s Race 1.
After clouting the wall in preceding practice and missing the entire session, Linus went into qualifying not knowing what to expect – but duly delivered a fine performance to haul himself back into contention.
In the end, his 1m11.729s best left him a close fourth, 0.376s shy of pole-setter Kyle Kirkwood and less than a tenth off GRG/HMD team-mate David Malukas on the front row.
Kirkwood’s Andretti Autosport colleague Danial Frost will start tomorrow’s race from third, with another Andretti car – that of Devlin DeFrancesco – rounding out the top five.
“Fourth today, it honestly feels a bit like a victory. It was a difficult morning with two offs on my part, which cost us a lot of laps and confidence, but then to bounce back like this is really good. P4, less than a tenth behind my team-mate in second, is a solid recovery. We have second qualifying coming up tomorrow and we can definitely build on this, and try again for pole.”
Indy Lights action resumes at Mid-Ohio tomorrow, starting off with Qualifying 2 at 10.05-10.35 am / 16.05-16.35.
